Metallic rattling when starting?
Hello everyone.
My Polo has been making strange noises while driving for some time now.
Among other things, when starting off without much gas, metal against metal, comes from the front right if I had to make up my mind (front wheel drive).
It is also very loud when I drive down a hill with engine braking and have just engaged a gear, a very loud rattling noise, which however disappears when I take the gear out or assist with the brakes.
When stationary without a gear, no noise is audible. Only when starting off at low revs or, as mentioned, when the engine is braking.
Maybe someone has a guess.

What exactly is that noise? Rattling, clattering, rumbling, rumbling, cracking, rumbling, banging, knocking?
Generally, the following are possible on the front left: brake, brake plate, stabilizer, control arm, ball joint, drive shaft, wheel bearing. Since the noise only occurs when the car is moving.
If it's really rattling : brake plate or a loose part of the lower panel.
It's like a rattling noise like a machine gun when you drive down the hill. And then it's really loud from the front right.
//But I think it's more likely to grind if damaged.//
That's what you get trained for; faith has little to do with it!
Oh yeah, right, I forgot about that again… don't you think it could be the brake disc guard? But I think it's more likely that it's rubbing if it's damaged.
