My brother wants a pet because I have one. Is that a good idea?
Hello! My mom got a cockatiel from her dad, who unfortunately left us two years ago at the age of 21. He left his wife behind, and because she had a behavioral problem, my mom got her a male who had also been abandoned by his partner. Because they were always in the living room and there was never really anyone there, and they didn't get much attention, we put them in my room, also because they have a good bond with me and they listen to me (only me).
My brother is jealous of me and wants a pet too. He's thinking about getting a hamster, but he has no space and we don't have the money to afford it because in the end he says: it's too much responsibility, I don't want it anymore, can we give it away? Or: it doesn't like me anyway, I don't want it anymore! So the poor hamster is going to end up in a disgusting, dirty room, and if my brother freaks out and destroys everything again, the poor thing will be scared, and then he certainly won't like my brother! I don't know how anyone can be so irresponsible and allow a small child to do that! (He's between 10 and 14). What do you think?
Between 10 and 14, one is no longer a “so small” child. In this way one can bear the responsibility for a hamster at the age (naja, in addition to the guardians).
But if you say that you don’t have so much money / not so much space – and your brother could push/slide out of the grid…. then I don’t know if it was a good idea to get another pet.
Even hamsters cost in maintenance. The purchase is easy and very favorable. But the cradle, evtl tube systems or budding possibilities…. then the whole litter, the lining, regular cleaning. Cuddly animals are not hamsters – rather animals to observe. And old are not Hamster (2 to … years).
But also a hamster may have to be a veterinarian – and veterinarian is not free in principle.
Your brother is jealous, but you can also understand something. But you did not decide “just like that” with the birds, but because the two birds in your room go better
my mama wants to buy him a pet or to buy one of them so he learns to be calmer, but he goes into my room where my birds are and cries out loud so it’s nothing else like if he has a hamster now.
to the ta cost: I know this can cost a lot:/ my vogel charlie had in the mauser a spring that didn’t want to get out and he couldn’t fly anymore and also bleed it has cost a whole 250 euro! but I have taken responsibility over my pets and paid it logically:) (what my brother will not do…)
By dealing with a pet, children should learn to take responsibility. Of course the animal should have it well.
You can suggest him as a pet, they are very cheap and he can’t do much wrong.
