(a) the integral must be calculated from 0 to 40 (or 60) The negative area component causes the distance to be reduced

(b) the amounts of the two surface parts (from 0 to 40 and from 40 to 60) must be added

the answer refers to the first image

b) from the second picture:

the function is replaced between 1 and 2 by a straight line and then the area is calculated. You can set the straight line with two points: for example (1|2.8) and (2|0.5)

Hello,

from 0 to 40 seconds, the draisine moves forward from 40 to 60 seconds.

At a) you need to integrate from 0 to 40 and from 0 to 60.

At b), you need to integrate from 0 to 40 and from 40 to 60 and add the amounts.

You shall calculate the grayly marked area.
To do this, you shall have the range of function between 1 and 2
as a straight line and calculate the area below it.

You should also specify the straight line equation.
