Does fabric softener ruin sweaters?

Hi, I bought a new sweater that was quite expensive, and the label said not to use fabric softener on it. But why? What exactly would be damaged? The print on the sweater? Does anyone have any experience with this? I want to keep the sweater for a long time and not have it ruin after just a few washes. Otherwise, I only wash with powder.

Depends on the material. That’s what you can’t wear.

But even after material, the garment loses its “function” In wool, the fibers can stick, or in functional laundry, the membrane is destroyed and it is only more like normal laundry
