Does the introduction make grammatical sense?

“This excerpt was taken from the novel “Pigeons in the Grass” written by Wolfgang Köppen, published in 1951.

The action takes place in the mid-20th century, in a German metropolis, five years after the Nazi regime.

In the novel, the reader gets an insight into the lives of all the people in the metropolis; the reader learns about the fears, the worries, the hopes as well as the advantages of the people.

The book transports the reader to a world full of ignorance, xenophobia and racism, occupied Germany, a time when the German people suffered a bitter defeat and a fundamental change.

It's quite possible that I'll be asking a lot of questions here in the next few days. I apologize in advance for getting on anyone's nerves.

Kind regards

*(I normally write “became” would this also be correct?),

I have the text only grammatically and lexical (e.g. bitternessNothesitation, sufferingNotare) corrected and improved the expression, but nothing changed in content.

These are too many spelling and grammar errors.
You can’t explain it all here.
