It always depends on the user and the intended use, whether you need more performance or even with less good. The additional cores are interesting if you want to work for example with AI tool and local LLM.

The same applies to computational tasks such as video and 3D post production or other applications that go beyond normal office activities. If all this doesn’t matter to you, it doesn’t have to be the pro chip.

However, where I’d eat less would be RAM and flash memory. In other words, if possible no basic model in the smallest configuration. You should always plan something more so that you have some reserves left.

The least need so much power, I still have the M1 for Office applications, but I don’t choke and don’t make extensive calculations.
