Märklin contact difficulties?
Hello, I have received several boxes of old Märklin H0 M-track and would like to integrate them into my digital C-track layout.
Unfortunately, almost all of them have extreme contact problems, especially the old switches are almost impossible to drive over.
So far I've had little success with sandpaper, does anyone know of any other better options?
Hello Lukas20040
Grinding paper is bad, because the protective layer is damaged and the tracks begin to rust.
There are rail cleaning rubber
You also need to control the rail connection points and possibly clean

Thank you so much, then I will admit this time
I also have the problem that turns when crossing a lock often create short circuits. Is there anything else I can do?
I suspect that the PuKos have traveled very far down between the rails or the ski grinders of your locomotive are bent hollow, so that they protrude deeper into the track with their ends than their center. This does not even have to be very strongly bent. To control, you can take a school ruler or geo triangle and create a page to the grinder. If a light gap of more than about 1/2 mm can then be seen in the middle, the grinder could be directed somewhat, so that it rests entirely against the ruler. Then try again.
The rails (M-Gleise, these are the ones with the metal body) can be placed for 1 to 2 hours in a flat container filled with creep oil and dried after the bath with kitchen paper or industrial plaster paper. Then check the rail connecting shoes and metal teeth of the track pieces on a fixed seat when the track pieces are fitted together.
If the locomotives are still bad, you must also be thoroughly cleaned and provided with fine oil and gear fat. Maybe you can also renew the motor brushes. If everything is cleaned, the driving fun would have to run untrusted.
You should know where the short circuit is. It could be that the point contacts are either worn or are too deep, that is, the grinder can cause the short circuit
You’re welcome
Okay, thank you very much
Okay, thank you
There are from Märklin transition jelly from M track to C track.
