M.2 slot broken?

Hi, I've built a new PC and wanted to use my old M.2 SSD from my old PC, but it's not being recognized in the top slot (I took it out and made sure it was inserted correctly, but it still wasn't recognized). I then put it in the third slot and it was recognized. I have another problem though, because I wanted to keep the data from my M.2, but I have the feeling that there are also problems because the installed Windows 11 won't start. I should mention here that I switched from a Ryzen 3700x to a Ryzen 7800x3d, which of course also required a new AM5 motherboard. The question now is whether I can just transfer the hard drive without losing the data or whether I have to delete everything, and also whether my motherboard is broken because the SSD wasn't recognized in the first slot.

Set up:

-ASUS TUF Gaming X670E-Plus

-Ryzen 7 7800X3D

-4x 16GB RAM

-4070ti super

Hello,

according to the specifications, the SSD should be detected in each slot. Because all slots supported PCIe SSDs.
Can you test the slot with another SSD?

The question is now if I can simply take over the hard drive without losing the data

In theory yes. But in practice, I recommend to reinstall the PC completely. This is a great opportunity now. So you have a fresh start.

I think you bought a Sata SSD and no Nvme. Please take a photo of the SSD.

There are also SATA SSDs at M.2. But in your case it’s a PCIe SSD
