Lost files on encrypted USB stick due to error?

Hello, I'm hoping someone here knows about VeraCrypt. I encrypted a USB stick with it and then copied files onto it. Unfortunately, an error occurred during the transfer (I was using cut-and-paste, stupid, I know). It froze at 30%, and I had to cancel the process. I then tried to unmount the stick using VeraCrypt, but then everything froze. It just loaded for hours like it was in an endless loop. So I had to force a restart on my PC, which prevented the stick from unmounting properly.

As expected, when I reconnected the drive, the 30% of files were gone, meaning they weren't there either on the PC or on the drive. However, even though no files were displayed on the drive, the properties now show that x MB is occupied, or that x files are on it, which corresponds exactly to the missing files. So, are these still "hidden" somewhere and can they still be recovered?

Hi.

I can’t help you. But on a USB stick, I wouldn’t take anything like that… It’s just too dangerous and USB sticks are breaking fast. How often has it happened to me that I saved something and the next time I put in the PC the stick on miraculous white has not worked anymore.

Maybe you can save the data.
