Is it worth installing Windows Server 2025 Essential?
Hello,
I'm already building myself a new used server.
For about 12 to 22 people.
And before I experiment too much and fall flat on my face…
Does anyone have any (more) experience with this?
Or do you just want to write something?
Or complain a little?
Go ahead!

Isn’t that a bit overkill? (Also at the price) I would have taken Ubuntu Server.
Yes!

Whether it is worthwhile or not depends on the intended use and requirements. If you ask these questions, write what you have to do. Here server is everything and nothing saying and nobody knows what it is used for. If you want to use .NET/ASP.NET applications and/or other Microsoft technologies such as Exchange, keep the respective versions compared. Speak on the basis of your requirements as to whether they are sufficiently fulfilled.
For example, if you want to work with VM, Essential would not be in question. This version is greatly restricted in number of users, functions and virtualization. So you have to see if and how far the restrictions would affect you. It would therefore be useful to learn how I wrote it at the beginning, what you want to do with it or what applications are used. Only scalability would tend to take the standard version.
and what exactly do you have with this server? Does it have to be Windows Server as an operating system? Otherwise, I would personally rather access Ubuntu Server or Debian – or if you want to use the server for VMs, Proxmox as a system and in the respective VMs then Ubuntu Server or Debian
