Live worms in cat feces after worming tablet?
Hello, my two cats each received a worming tablet from the vet yesterday after one of them vomited roundworms a few days ago.
Both cats received the tablet (Milbemax) from the vet around 5 pm I discovered dead worms in one cat's feces last night. I discovered it again this evening, but this time I also found live worms in the other cat's feces.
Is this normal? Is the tablet working yet? How long will it take for the worms to go away?
Hello!
I'm not a veterinarian. I don't even have a cat…
But you should still name the tablets you administered, as well as the dosage and schedule.
Then an expert might be able to say something non-binding about this.
Have you actually read the package insert or searched for this product on the Internet?
However, for definitive answers, it would be better if you asked the veterinarian directly.
greeting
Martin
The worms may have been in the feces and the cats excreted them with the worm control.
The deworming treatment usually works quite quickly. However, you can't tell if a cat has worms from the stool sample…it's possible that another cat has worms.
Simply tape a video of the fecal matter and send it to your vet. Then, based on the worm infestation in the fecal matter, they can determine whether the cats actually had worms. (Which was only assumed based on the worms in the vomited matter.)
When deworming or with worm infestation, it's important that the treated animals/cats are fed twice a day, and of course, this continues after the deworming. Since worming pills destroy the basic nutrients of the food they eat, the animals are susceptible to worm infestation from another cat until they are fed for the next two days.
Roundworms make you vomit? Very strange. They're intestinal parasites. And yes, the tablet works after you take it. Roundworms cling to the intestinal walls and are egg-laying machines. They excrete eggs that can be seen under a microscope. They can, of course, also pass on their own, which is ideal. Cats are usually given Panacur paste after their feces have been examined and it has been determined that something is wrong. My tortoises occasionally get this medication too. Panacur is also very effective against other worms such as oxyurae and pinworms. Animals get these when they get drinking water that runs from the roof into a barrel. Bird droppings are the trigger, and these wash down the drain. So never give animals this kind of water.
