Listening to black metal as a believer?

It just popped into my head while listening to music. Can/are religious people (regardless of their religion) listen to black, death, or trash metal? Is that okay, or would it go against their religion?

In principle, you can do anything that you personally agree with your faith. Black metal, in particular, contains many anti-Christian themes, as black metal was originally defined by its satanic or anti-Christian lyrics. Such lyrics can also be found in death metal and, less frequently, thrash metal.

But very few bands are truly serious about it. For most, it's more of an art form than a true belief. However, there are some who are serious about it.

In the end, you decide for yourself and don't let others interfere.

PS: The singer of Slayer is a devout Catholic and yet sings lyrics with satanic content. He says for him, they're two different things: one is art, the other is his faith.

As Anders Larsson said, few bands are truly serious about this. In Norway, someone set fire to some churches. In Sweden, they burned the Koran.

With Morbid Angel, you don't really know what they're really trying to do with all these demons. Azetbua, Iak Sakkakh, etc. Crush the priest, etc.

Burzum is said to be a right-wing radical. I stay away from that, too.

I just saw this today by chance, thanks for the positive mention 🙂

There are also Christian bands in the black death or trash metal scene.

Therefore, it doesn't matter what the members of a band look like or what style of music they play.

What counts are the lyrics of the songs they present.

A Christian should not listen to lyrics that glorify violence, make fun of God, or praise evil.

Hail,

In most "sensitive" religions, this wouldn't be a problem at all. Why should it be?

I don't know about Christianity or Islam. But I doubt, for example, that the Bible says:

11th Commandment

You are not allowed to listen to music from the following list:

Black Metal

Dark Metal

Black End Dark Metal

It's just a guess

You can basically interpret it however you want. Your faith should come from the heart. Right?

But you shouldn't spell "thrash" as "trash." And it's best not to pronounce it that way either.

I think you can listen to anything as long as it doesn't insult your religion or propagate extremely bad things.

There is also "religious" metal

But the Christian God doesn't really care what you hear.

This is music! It has nothing to do with religion!

Well, I wouldn't quite agree with that when it comes to black metal, which was originally defined by its satanic or anti-Christian lyrics. 😉

That depends on the religion – and how strictly one interprets the rules.

As an average Christian, you can do this without any problems.
