Lipedema or just severe body dysmorphia?
Hi! I'm 24 years old and I'm a bit of a hypochondriac 🙁 I always get worked up about a lot of illnesses and then think that I have them too and look for symptoms until I notice some… this time it's lipedema, or rather AGAIN. Last year at this time I had exactly the same fear because I saw a lot of women on TikTok who happened to be talking about it and then I compared myself to them and their symptoms.
About me: I'm pretty athletic, so I've been going to the gym for about a year (3-4 times a week), where I alternate upper and lower body workouts, and of course, do 30 minutes of cardio afterward. I actually felt like it was doing some good (though I have to say, I don't usually train that hard, and I know that, so maybe I should try it sometime). But recently, I saw lipedema content on TikTok on my Facebook page again, and then it all started.
I was always someone who thought I was too fat, even though I was of normal weight and not fat at all.
And strangely enough, I only ever have lipedema fears in the summer because I sometimes get a pulling sensation in my lower legs or calves, which could be due to the heat, and I'm generally prone to water retention (I think). Besides, I'm also someone who lives under stress, which means my cortisol is probably high, which means I lose less weight and so on. Because I just feel like it's incredibly difficult for me to lose fat. (I'm skinny fat.)
I pay attention to a protein-rich diet and have recently started tracking my calories.
I did this pinch test for lipedema but it doesn't hurt.
I've attached a picture of my legs. What would you say? (Of course, I have muscles in my legs because I do 90kg leg presses at the gym, for example, and I don't have any problems with pain or anything like that, except for the occasional soreness, but that's normal.)
My arms have become more defined through weight training, but not drastically (as I said, I'm not training that hard and I just have the feeling that I'm slowly losing fat, including on my stomach).
I have a bit of flabby arms, but not incredibly thick ones. I have normal to slim arms, just a bit of fat and muscle mixed in.
Very normal, slim legs.
Left normal. Right. It could hardly be more obvious, don’t you think?
Your first step should actually be the deletion of TikTok, as it seems only ****** will be told that is stuck in the minds of young people. If you’re “Skinny fat” or you have, a doctor should tell you. And not any influencers of TikTok.
yes ok but the right is definitely stage 3 or so
Hello 🙋
You have normal legs.
And above all, the kneif test should be positive at least in case of suspicion, which he is not. Don’t worry about it.
If you had a legs L and upper body is size S and you get very fast blue spots, then it can be.
But that really sounds like hypochondria.
These are the legs of a person with lipoedema in stage 1:
(P.S. am himself affected)
LG
you have normal legs. Don’t get in there and don’t let you affect. Lipema or lymphedema look quite different
So you wouldn’t say Stage 1. And how do you know?:)
I myself have a lipoedema and that for a good 12 years. Know me very well now. But if you want to be professionally convinced, make an appointment with a physiotherapist who treat edema. Dates in a lymphologist or phlebologist are even harder to get.
You can also ask your family doctor.
You have pain when pressing on or the impression stays longer in the skin. The skin is very tense and feels about as if a balloon burst soon.
Water in the legs is quite normal in the summer and is without concerns. You don’t have to worry about it. If you still have the feeling that you feel uncomfortable with it, you can also, without appointment, just go to a sanity house. There they sell compression stockings and can also advise. Or you’ll buy some stockings in the net and see how you do it.
But please don’t go crazy and don’t get in there
I didn’t. Just hold easy pulling in the legs in the summer, which can also come from the heat as I said… because in winter or when it’s fresh I don’t have it at all! So stage 1 is likely to exclude… I think I’m just making myself crazy. I simply forget the strength training makes the legs naturally stronger
Since you have a distorted perception, a hypochondria, don’t believe all users, go to the doctor!
Apparently nobody can talk to you here.
Hi! Don’t worry, your legs look good. Normal slim, no vulnerabilities 😉
It’s okay
Okay, how did you know that? (not mean evil 🤗) and Stage 1 would not be recognized by me either?
I don’t think you’d see Stage 1. I have clients and relationship with lipoedema, so I have seen a lot. But SpookyBatwing is right if you are still worried, let it clear better 😉 Nevertheless, your legs look completely normal from 👍
Have you been with the doctor?
👍
Lymphologists or phlebologists.
Okay and what doctor?
Then I’d make an appointment, just so it’ll calm you down.
No
