Learn Chinese despite China being far away?
I find it very fascinating how big cities and technology are in China.
In addition to culture and everyday life.
Until I became interested in it, learning Mandarin was always too dry for me.
Why learn this?
For working in China?
As far away as that?
That was roughly my thoughts.
Now I am fascinated by the above points but I am reluctant to do the work because:
Why should you learn Mandarin when the country is so far away?
For the Chinese people here, the effort wouldn't be worth it. Besides, just talking to Chinese people doesn't appeal to me right now.
But being able to read Chinese, their news, books and especially technology updates directly and more – that's another thing.
You can also learn something because you have fun. You don't always have to think about the profession.
With me, it was also more or less just a hobby because I was very interested in Chinese history and culture.
The questioner doesn't even control his mother's orache!
wa 3rabi la sawl. at3lam hadzihi mudhu hawali wahed sana. Uhib adrusa. shukran.
has health reasons. hablo espanol tambien و عربي. And Arabic, so yes I think I trust to try Chinese. Thank you.
It doesn't matter. There are many reasons.
Thank you. I'd like to start with the bases – can I ask how long does it take for piynin? So the caption?
I also learn btw from hobby or interest, that would certainly be interesting, but definitely not the main motivation to go through.
I'd get a cure, of course. But after everything I've read, the transcription and thus a (only a natural!) more important part of the mandarin should be made faster.
Instead of thousands of characters – I have to learn anyway that is aware of.
Everyone learns different and different lengths. Maybe you can watch some YouTube videos or browse the bookstore and library in some language books to get an impression.
Okay, I'll check on ytb again, the course just ordered.
Then this also brings pressure to try.
What can go wrong
You can learn a language from fascination.
I feel like you, especially the characters I care about. I'm almost addicted to learning new characters
I use the app HelloChinese to learn Chinese. But no app is perfect so I go to every word to check whether the meaning is true or whether there are other meanings. I think Duolingo also offers a Chinese course. However, I recommend using other sources because no app covers everything.
You don't have to learn Mandarin for professional reasons.
I learn Mandarin from personal interest and have a lot of fun! I also want to fly to China in 2026 to see the Chinese culture and admire the magnificent architecture of Shanghai. What is also another reason for me to travel to China is that I can apply my language skills. After 1.5 years I was able to teach Mandarin as a foreign language (elementary knowledge).
It was definitely worth learning Mandarin because it not only allows you to communicate with locals, but also to develop a deeper understanding of culture and people. You can experience authentic experiences that go beyond what is in guidebooks. It also opens up professional opportunities, as Mandarin is becoming increasingly important in the global economy. Ultimately, it enriches your life to gain new perspectives and to close friendships.
"Ultimately, it enriches your life to gain new perspectives and to close friendships." -That's what I could also win through Arabic, since a year of learning.
That's too little.
In addition, you're just saying what I said to travel far or talk to local people.
I have been considering Russian or Chinese – Russian would be more important to me than Chinese. In addition to the world situation, of course, where Russian is also interesting.
But Chinese is still such a "break-up" and really inspiring against Russian.
Arabic I say again and again is like an "adventure" because it is so fascinating in culture in people and more – in addition, few Arab people live here.
That's why it's such a split.
If china were not as far away or at least as many Chinese here as Russian or Muslim people (which have a significant proportion of the clear population) – then it would be quite clear:
I learn Chinese (Mandarin).
I think I'm going to get the book, and I'm just gonna go through the lyrics, book books, and all you need to see is if I like that enough.
Ps: Russian only started to see if the motivation is big enough because I had a Russian cursor at home.
I find everything I have seen now the skyline of cities like Chendu (?) and Shanghai also easy….invisible.
How far the technology is there (I'm a technology enthusiast), easy wow
In other words, someone who has learned:
What was it worth to travel to China and talk to local people?
I'll answer it. In my answer I add something that answers this question!
Because China continues to be one of the most economically important countries of this planet and will remain in the future, due to all investments in nuclear power plants, sustainable energy, AI, etc.
If you want to learn Mandarin: I created a tool called Plaudli (plaudli.de) that allows you to simulate conversations in Chinese languages.
