Laundry smells like a basement?

Hi. Our baby clothes have been in the attic for four years and in a box in the basement for the last six months.

Unfortunately, it now smells terrible. I've washed it once with a very mild baby wash powder (without perfume) and a hygiene rinse. The smell is significantly less, but the laundry still smells musty.

There were no mildew or mold stains on the laundry, just “just” the musty smell.

Do you have any advice?

You could try it with an ozone generator.

For example: https://www.amazon.de/Auveach-Ozongenerator-Ozonmaschine-Industrieller-Luftreiniger/dp/B0BYN99PMZ/

But be careful. In the space where the machine works, a highly enriched ozone atmosphere is created. This is dangerous to health for a limited time.

Ozone splits up the odor molecules. The laundry has no smell after that.

After use, ventilate the room well to get the nitrogen oxides out.

I have had good experiences with such devices.

Wash with a correct full detergent, as hot as possible and if it is possible to dry at the sun.

Wash repeatedly seems to be the only solution or buy new.

Take Sensitive washing powder but hygiene rinser. Class
Let something go. It is not good at all for the skin (and not even for the machine)

It’s normal that this smells like cellar after so long.

A long hang out in a ventilated place about a week +

second odor-binding agent such as coffee and the fabric around it.

Try a shot of vinegar while washing, neutralizes the smell

Open a few days in the fresh air and then wash again.

Repeat if required…
