Reinstalled laptop, hard drive is still full, why?

Hello 🙂

I reset my laptop today.
But now I've noticed that the hard drive is still full.

See image:

I've already reinstalled several programs after reinstalling. Have I installed them twice on the hard drive?

And why wasn't the hard drive formatted?
I thought that happens when you reinstall it too?

Do I have to do this separately, and if so, how?
Do I have to reinstall the laptop now that I have formatted the hard drive?
Or how does it all work, formatting the hard drive and resetting the laptop?

By the way, even though the hard drive is still full, the laptop is super fast again!
How can this be if the hard drive is still full?

Yes, I ask a lot of questions, sorry! 😀

Unfortunately, I'm a tech idiot and don't know much about it 😀
So please answer and explain as precisely as possible so that I, a tech idiot, can understand it too 🙂

Best regards and thank you in advance for your answers,
The Witch Lord 🙂

Release the storage space via Windows setting: setting > Memory. Look at the lower pictures.

When the picture shows, I’ve released over 2 GB.

I also try third-party software to find duplicate files and delete them. I would recommend 4DDiG. https://4ddig.tenorshare.com/en/duplicate-file-deleter.html

Hm, did you reinstall Windows from Windows? If so, delete the WindowsOLD folder.

Run command prompt with the right mouse button and as administrator. Enter there and Powercfg -h off.

Remove Shadow Copies:

Run input request as an administrator. Enter vssadmin list shadowstorage. Enter.

Do not create shadow copies or restrict space

If you don’t know what to enter, type vssadmin /?

System Control-> System-> Computer Protection-> Configure-> (For Windows7)

Move your own files:

The easiest thing to do with Freecommander (Very good replacement for Windows Explorer Two Window View)

computerbild.de/download/FreeCommander-Portable-4801161.html

There you go to C\Users\Da username There you will find My Videos, My Music,, My Pictures, Personal (corresponds to your own documents) .

In D you need to create 4 folders, music. Video, pictures. You can also create it as a subfolder. The main folder could be, for example, Paul’s data.

Example: Personal D:\Pauls Data\Pauls Documents

Later, the folder can also be changed at this point.

There are more possibilities in the registry. Since it is only suitable for experienced users, I do not explain how to call it!

In the registry, you can also move other folders/files.

Installing programs elsewhere

wintotal.de/tipparchiv/?id=985

Also make the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE- > System -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> Session -> Manager -> Memory Management -> PrefetchParameters.

Right double-click on “EnablePrefetcher” and set DWord to 0. Reboot!

Search System Properties under Control. Extends-> Enter ambient variables at Temp TMP for example D:\WinTMP. Create the WinTMP folder. Also under Expanded-> Settings-> Expanded-> Virtual memory. Don’t set a file for C. Then set a removal file to D.

In the Internet Explorer under Extras-> Internet Options-> Move browser history folder.

Turn off index: Right-click on a General-> Indizierung Remove Hooks.

Remove This Folder: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

To boot and install Windows from a USB stick and format the hard drive, you can do the following steps:

  1. Download the Windows installation file and save it on your computer.
  2. Connect an empty USB stick with at least 8 GB storage space with your computer.
  3. Call the Windows Media Creation Tool program and select “Create Media (USB Drive, DVD or ISO File) to install another PC”.
  4. Select the USB stick you want to copy the installation file, and click “Next”.
  5. Wait until the process is completed. This can take a few minutes.
  6. Turn off the computer you want to install Windows and connect the USB stick to the USB port.
  7. Restart the computer and press F12 or Esc button to call the boot menu. Select the USB stick and press the input button.
  8. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Windows. During setup, you will be asked what partitions you want to keep. Select “Delete all data on this PC”
  9. Select the hard drive you want to format and click on “Next”
  10. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Windows installation.

Please note that the exact process may vary depending on the computer and Windows version. It is therefore advisable to follow the instructions of the manufacturer of the computer. In addition, all data on the hard drive will be deleted, make sure you have all the important data backed up.
