Staring at a nearby point for a while makes it appear farther away? Does anyone know this?

I know this is a really weird question, but I'll try to explain. When I look at a very close object for a long time, like my hand, for several minutes, I've noticed that the view is different and seems farther away when I look at a point of a similar distance. Does anyone know this? What is it called, if it has a name?

It takes a few seconds until the eye muscles then acquaint after long mobile phone use and near vision and the remote vision is sharp again.

The ability to use the eye muscles in distance and proximity is the accomodation that means that the eye lens changes its refractive power to sharpen objects from different distances. The lens is elastic and can adapt its radius of curvature so that the light beams are focused on the retina.
