Cut the claws of a sick bird?
I have a canary who is unfortunately a bit sick and therefore weak. He's really struggling, eating and drinking normally, etc.
His claws are a bit too long now, so he often gets completely caught on his food cheeks, forcing me to free him or causing him to fall. I'd like to trim his claws (I do this regularly with the others), but I'm worried that he'll literally die in my hand, since he's sick and not exactly young anymore.
What would you do if you were me? Cut it or leave it alone and find a solution for the food?
If he stays hanging, it’s also enormous stress, especially if you’re not there and he gets panicked…I’d cut the claws and try to minimize the stress.
But how should I minimize the stress there? It’s kind of got to catch him. I tried before, but he was already completely finished and was on the side for a short time, even though I hadn’t even in my hand…
Darkness lets most birds come to rest, maybe you can take it in the evening( Chickens e.g. if it is dark light and almost stress free from the bar) and cover its face with a cloth warming you the claws cutting edge(of course so that it can still breathe). Otherwise, nothing really falls apart from making it two, that it goes faster(one cuts one keeps the bird.
Hi.
Why don’t you take him to the vet when he’s sick? The animal has to be supplied, otherwise he only torments around until he falls off the bar at some point.
Or was he examined and it is a non-curable disease?
The doctor could cut your canary’s claws. If you go unskilled it can happen that you cut too much and it starts to bleed. A veterinarian has blood-slowing watts for emergency.
You also have to make sure that you cut the claw at the right angle, otherwise you hinder healthy growth.
LG and good improvement of your Canaries
It’s not my own bird so I don’t have much to say about him. The veterinarians here say they can’t do much because it’s such a small creature and the next birdy veterinarian who, if at all, what could do is far too far away so just too stressful for him.
At least he eats and drinks well, and he recovered again, it was worse.
And as I said, I know how it works, but I always thank my own, too.I just don’t trust him because of his condition. I just tried to catch him, but he was already on the side of the ground before I even had him in my hand, I rather left it.
Okay,
So it’s not your canaries? Maybe you can try the owner to talk something to the conscience?
We don’t have a veterinarian here either. We’ve got to go to the neighboring town for 3 hours. But you have to do this for your pet if you take responsibility for it. It’s better I know I tried it and not only watched it die.
I’ll never understand. After all, you’re still trying your best. Press the thumbs for the little one
If you’re undercut in claw cutting, you should shorten the nail horn.
Otherwise you should leave it to professionals.
