Können Opale durch Sonnenlicht ihre Farbe verlieren?

Ich habe einen Opal, welchen der Händler bereits in Wasser liegen hatte, also hat er seine Trübheit schon verloren, aber hatte trotzdem schöne Regenbogen Farben.

Jetzt hatte ich ihn am Fensterbrett in der Sonne liegen, und die Farbe ist jetzt nur noch goldbraun.

Zerstört Sonnenlicht da die Farbe, oder kommt das langsam noch wieder zurück?

Yes, opals can lose their color by sunlight. Opals are watery gems, and when they dry out, they can lose their opalescence (the dazzling shine) and sometimes also their color. It is therefore advisable not to expose opals to direct sunlight in order to preserve their colours.

Opals are water resistant and lose opalescence, shine and some also color when they dry out. Whether they can regenerate when they are placed in the water depends on the opal type. Previously, they put opal jewellery for storage in a raw potato, was a good idea, but is “from fashion”. placing them on the windowboard in the sun is the worst thing you can do with them (except in the oven).

Damage cannot (as long as no algae develop in the water).
