Can hamsters and cats be “friends”?

I sometimes let my hamster out into my room because she always goes to her cage and waits for me to take her out (and no, her cage isn't too small or dirty). My cat sometimes comes into my room too, and my cat never does anything to her; she just follows her around and touches her lightly. Can they be friends?

Your cat shows hunting behavior through the trailing and tapping! If also inhibited because it is presumably faced with living prey for the first time. Hamsters also do not always recognize cats as an enemy and move very confidently in the presence of a cat. Nevertheless, the mood can tilt at any time!

If you have a cage, you should exchange it for an aquarium or self-construction where only the lid is encased and the cat with the claws cannot come to the hamster. Hamsters and mice have already been mutilated and killed because the mice has caught them through the grid. With my cats, I have put this danger in a fabric mouse:

The fact that you give the hamster freewheel only in the absence of the cat should actually be understood by yourself. The cat makes the hamster clear faster in case of doubt than you can react!

No. If the cat doesn’t do anything: beautiful. But for the hamster, what you do is incredibly stressful! He is constantly chased (his vision). Please leave it right away.

Firstly, something can always happen and secondly it is for the hamster of absolute stress.

PS: If the hamster has a cage and sticks up the grid, it is certainly not an art-friendly attitude.

This friendship between the cat and the hamster is to be considered with BEFORE. You must not forget the cat’s natural hunting drive.

What friendship?

You should not keep cats and hamsters in an apartment at all. You don’t want a free running tiger in your room either. Even the proximity of a cat makes a hamster in fear of death.

Of course, hamsters and cats cannot become friends. Hamster fit into the prey scheme of cats. This always means stress for the escape animal Hamster, even if the cat does nothing. Furthermore, it is also bad, should she pick the hamster, as the saliva of cats is harmful to hamsters. And then, of course, they also have other body languages and therefore cannot communicate with each other. I would never leave cat and hamster together, not without supervision.

Then you can watch when the hamster is killed…

No. You can’t leave the cat in the room. This is, of course, difficult to implement, which is why the attitude of hamsters and cats in an apartment is urgently advised.

If the cat’s tired, it’s not. otherwise I am black for the hamster.
