German was quite widespread until the 2nd World War, but then strongly declined and today tends towards zero – with the exception of a few regions where the German has held a little.

No, only those who have either emigrated from a German-speaking country or those who have learned it. The second is relatively few.

The official language of the USA is English.

That is correct, there is no established official language. But since 82% of the population speaks English, it is at least a national language.
