Kodak compact camera: Recommended?

Hello!

I wanted to ask if Kodak is a recommended brand for compact cameras. My needs are quite modest; I enjoy taking photos for personal use and occasionally take a photo that appears in the local newspaper (I'm the press officer for two clubs).

I know Kodak more as a brand for analogue film, which I enjoyed working with around 2000. I currently have a Lumix and am happy with it, but I'd like a second camera to switch to – and the local expert is currently offering a Kodak for a reasonable price (under 200 euros).

Can you buy something like that (or is Kodak just a brand name?) or should you look for affordable "brand-name" offers from well-known manufacturers like Lumix, Nikon, or Voigtländer at the camera store?

Thanks and greetings!

Kodak was once a name at film times, but then went pleite (digital ages sleep though they invented ironically digital photography) and the name rights were bought up. Nowadays it is more of a brand that is printed on cheap devices and has no longer much in common with the original company.

So, yes, you should pay attention to branded goods (Voigtländer does not make any more cameras): Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm are the worth mentioning. Everything else is more exotic.

Depending on what you already own for a camera, it would be better to consider if you don’t go up a step and grab a real DSLR or Mirrorless. You can also find DSLRs for 200-300€ (without lens).

You still haven’t told me what camera you’ve got right now. Then you could suggest something.

Ah ne Four Thirds. So if you want something more compact, I’d look at the Lumix LX-15. For compact cameras has a relatively large 1 inch sensor and a light-fast 24-72mm f/1.4-f/2.8 lens.

Simple compact camera die from .. What is still to be bought should be more rests. Kodak is broke, who produces something under the brand name is not known to me. But brand names often exist longer than the company. So there is still Grundig, Loewe, AEG, Braun, although the original companies no longer exist.

But instead of compact camera, you can take any better phone nowadays.

And if what should be better, more professional then no way leads past system cameras with alternating lenses.

In between there are the so-called bridge cameras with solid superzoom, macro function. But these are also compromises, and compact ones are no longer, the better ones come to the price of entry models from system cameras.

I’d guess I’d get rid of mirror reflex cameras when you start again. These are also all discontinued models, and the succession models without mirrors have adapters for the old lenses, but need other objetives for optimal use. So save on mirrorless, my advice would be! And to start it can also be an older model, the image quality depends primarily on the objective whether the sensor has 16 or 20 Mpix is relatively no matter.

Whether the cameras are actually made by Kodak or are only labeled with it, I don’t know.

But I think a camera in the price class as a “exchange camera” is insane. Then you better invest in a good system.
