Change of license plate via re-registration?

Hello, I have a somewhat strange question.

I currently have a car registered and have new license plates for it. Unfortunately, changing the license plate online at the registration office isn't possible. I would need an appointment for that. The earliest appointment I can make would have a wait time of over a month.

Now to my question:

It's possible to re-register the vehicle online. Is it possible to re-register the vehicle with the new license plates, so I can avoid the waiting period and drive directly with the provisional registration? Could I simply continue using the insurance?

Maybe the question is stupid, but I don't know much about it.
