We were on our way to vacation and when we had already covered 400 km a sign started to light up on the front saying the engine oil level was too high. We called the ADAC and they said they would be there in about an hour. After that we waited for more than an hour and they said that wasn't possible, they had to go to the garage because the damage absolutely had to be checked there. But it was Saturday evening. Then they said they would send a tow truck, which would take us to the garage but wouldn't open until Monday. They apparently could organize a hotel. Then we said we should find a hotel ourselves. Then they did it but they said all the hotels were full. After I said we're stuck now the lady got cheeky and said should I conjure up a hotel or what, my hands are tied, they can just find one themselves. I then looked for one but many were actually full. I then called again and they said they could give us a rental car so we could drive back home (400km) and then return the car three days later. We said okay, we had no other choice, but the car they gave us was a joke. It's like a toy, we were scared for our lives driving it at night, so we changed our minds and stayed. We had to sleep in the car because there are no empty hotels. I'm really shocked, I've never experienced anything like that. Today we'll look for a hotel… tomorrow we'll go to the garage. I can't go on anymore, I need to go to the toilet so badly, everything is closed here… I could cry, I'm about to pee my pants.
My question is, they lent us the car so we could go home, but we're not there anyway. If we were to stay in a hotel, would they cover the hotel costs even with the rental car? (1 day)? Honestly, I have absolutely no desire to call again. My nerves are frayed, especially at the thought of them being so rude…
&is this situation normal?
