Der Name des Landes wird auf Arabisch mit dem Buchstaben qaf geschrieben. Diesen Laut gibt es im Deutschen, Englischen usw. nicht. Er wird aber oft als q wiedergegeben. Es gibt noch einen anderen, ähnlich lautenden Buchstaben (kaf) im Arabischen, der oft als k wiedergegeben wird. Die in der deutschen Arabistik/Islamwissenschaft übliche Umschrift der “Deutschen Morgenländischen Gesellschaft” sieht z.B. q für qaf und k für kaf vor.
Im Englischen wird das Land auch mit q geschrieben.
Da man im Deutschen ohnehin nicht zwischen arabischem qaf und kaf unterscheiden kann und k als Buchstabe üblicher ist, schreibt man im Deutschen üblicherweise Katar.
Katar ist die deutsche Schreibweise, das andere die englische bzw. die arabisch angelehnte.
So, wie Du willst. Es heißt auch Mailand und Milano. Como die Lago und Comer See. Es heißt Warszawa und Warschau. Und Moskau kann ich nicht mal mit meiner Tastatur schreiben.
Beides ist richtig.
