Card payment in Poland, zloty or euros?
The question is above. The reason for this is that you can choose the currency for card payments. I was once told I should use euros and zloty. What should I do? Where can I (usually) get a cheaper deal? That's a question I've been asking myself for a while. I hope someone has a plausible answer. I can't find a clear answer on Google.
thanks in advance
I can’t say that. This depends on the conditions of your card at the outgoing institute:
If you are not or only low If you have foreign currency fees, you will get away cheaper with payment Zloty.
If your foreign currency fees are higher than the payment service provider’s fees when converting into euro, you will get away cheaper with payment in euro.
This depends entirely on the conditions of your card/bank.
With my bank I don’t pay any fees for foreign currency payments and get the current exchange rate, so it’s always cheaper for me to use the amount in foreign currency.
If the bank or card operator (in case of a credit card) requires fees, the direct conversion may be cheaper. The operator of the terminal uses a fixed exchange rate, which is often more expensive and includes fees, as it is not so often updated and as they do not want to make a loss somewhat worse is placed on the customer. However, this can be more favourable depending on your own conditions, for which you must know your own conditions.
In principle, it is advisable to pay in the national currency (i.e. in Poland in Zloty), because then the currency is converted from its own bank to the current rate.
The payment in Euro is often offered to you abroad with a “guaranteed exchange rate” or other names, but this rate is usually significantly worse.
