Can or should you leave the power plug in the socket for external hard drives with a power switch?
Good morning,
I have a WD Elements Desktop with a 6TB HDD. Will the drive draw any power if the drive's power switch is off but the power cable remains plugged in? Can, or should, it be left plugged in?
The hard drive comes standard with a hard drive enclosure and ventilation slots.
In the case of a TV with an on/off switch, you usually leave the plug in the socket and only use the switch.
I'm using the drive to back up my videos for now anyway, so the drive is rarely on.
Thank you very much for your answers and have a nice 3rd Advent!
No, the plate is not “loaded”.
You can do as you want.
Some use a multiple socket with switch.
The multiple socket has no switch. Therefore, the question whether the device is loaded in any way despite the power switch of the device. Because the plug is always pure and out is also not good due to these voltage peaks
If your multiple socket has no switch, you can buy one with switch.
This is very inexpensive for 3,00 € or high quality for over 20,00 €.
