Hi.

Mixing is from the tracks you have to make a song or track – so all the changes you take on the tracks to have a finished song/track.

So e.g.

  • what traces are there from the available?
  • how loud I make the individual tracks and parts of the song
  • Can I improve or change the sound of some traces through effects and equalizing?
  • How do I organize the music spatially in the stereo field?
  • Do I have to cut out disturbing frequencies or noises or filter out?
  • Do I add your own small elements/tracks to change/improve sound?

The mastering is then about to make a final check before the track is pressed or released in the finished form, i.e., about the creation of the master.

Here we look at the sound image of the mixing result again and pay particular attention to compatibility with various real playback conditions:

  • Is the sound picture balanced or too bright/too blunt?
  • How can I set up the sound image so that it can be set up on various systems, headphones, mono etc. does it also function reliably instead of being reproduced distorted on certain devices, for example, because you do not hear certain elements or much too loud?
  • How loud I do the song and are the songs compatible on a release in volume and sound enough

This can in practice overlap both or be made by the same person. In mastering, you often rely on plugins, visualization of the frequency spectrum or relatively simple controls with poorer, more primitive audio systems, as well as on work already done before during mixing, such as a mixture in the bass range that is generally compatible with many conditions.

When mixing, you listen to how all traces sound together, cleanse effects if necessary and adjust everything accordingly to a balanced relationship with each other.

At the mastering, you draw a high-quality stereo copy of the mix at the mixer output, which is used for reproduction.

Fl Studio has been forever. I’ve never heard Bitwig. FL Studio is a full software for sound designers

I’ve never heard of that. Even the sound designer at the academy meant that the program is in order. Movement or OVox never used. And if you do, you’re free.

Right, they all blew up at Steinberg. Cubase rulez! 😉😁👍

The question was answered very well. I would like to add a little more to your question “What’s up?”:

Mixing is a very individual process – i.e. it is about e.g. leaning towards the voice of the singer/songwriter and finding out which frequencies sound good/less well and edit them with EQ, compressor. A great deal is that each instrument or track passes through the mix and has the desired effect. For example, if you want the kick/bass drum to push through the beat, the volume must fit and you should avoid that traces are in the way. Often times, for example, bass and kick cover the approximately equal frequencies. So I’ve been using the experience that concerns mixing before real mixing – so it’s better to use a little more time when selecting sounds instead of having to mix everything very strongly afterwards. If you have several instruments go make sure they should not play an octave higher and below. And of course, buses for instruments or drums make sense to make this more uniform 🙂

My 2 cents, hope this helps.

Hi.

What about mixing?

TheMixingrecorded sound tracks are mixed together. Various processes such as equalization (EQ), compression and Hall effects are used.

What do you mean Mastering?

Masteringis the last step in the audio post production. The purpose of the mastering is to balance the sound elements of a stereo mix and to optimize reproduction on all systems and media formats.

With the mastering you will ultimately create the final version of an album in maximum quality. All media are generated from the resulting master

Mixing and Mastering are the last 2 steps before production

Mastering is the matching of the different sound tracks via virtual plugins or controlled chaos with analog instruments via cable salad

Mixing is again the sound tracks when you use the fader or patterns when you insert them into the pattern or the decks in a mixer

What software do you use?

Mixing is the mixing of instruments of the band, drum microphones, bass via DI Box. Remove guitar cabinet with microphone, singing

A homogeneous mixture should then occur.

Studio mixers are quite huge with play-out paths to hall effects

Mastering is finishing with vocal pitch correction like TC Helicon. De-Esser. Revision of frequencies.
