Can you switch to contact lenses?

Last summer, my optician told me I needed to wear glasses. But last Sunday, they broke. I know I could just buy new ones, but to be honest, my previous pair was already really expensive, and I don't trust myself with new ones because I'm really clumsy. I'd rather try contact lenses now, so can I just go to the optician and get some for my prescription?

Most defects can be corrected very well with contact lenses. Nevertheless, you should be able to explain, in principle, whether there are medical reasons against contact lenses. For this, ophthalmologists are the right address. To then have contact lenses adapted to your eyes, make an appointment with the optician or with an optician. There, other measurements are made and contact lenses are selected for your eyes based on the results. The handling and care of contact lenses is also explained and shown there. In principle, it is important to know that the care of contact lenses is more complicated than with the glasses. Also, higher ongoing costs arise for new lenses and care utensils. And you also need a replacement glasses, because your eyes always need a lens break. No contact lenses should be worn even in certain circumstances (e.g. strong cold).

Contact lenses must be individually adapted. In any case, they are more complicated than glasses. A glasses will always be simpler and more robust than contact lenses that are more sensitive in handling, care and hygiene.

Contact lenses can also not replace glasses because the daily wear time is limited and you should wear glasses in the evening and one day a week if possible.

To start with contact lenses, there are already some reasons to make this worthwhile. For example, to have a sharp all-round view without glasses during sport, which can be disturbed and damaged. Or just because of the appearance, not least with higher strength.

As a mere replacement for a scraped glasses, however, contact lenses as an alternative are only limited because they also contain a lot of new things.

Hello

Of course, you can simply let your optician advise you to contact lenses. It will measure your eyes and check whether they are suitable for wearing CL.

You need glasses despite all this, because if a lens is lost/caputted, or you cannot wear lenses for reasons of eye inflammation due to environmental influences, you will have to resort to your glasses. Also, this has already been described here, the eyes 1x per week need a lens pause.

This should only be a competent optician after finding out detailed anamnese, investigations and tests, so do nothing on his own.

Contact lenses won’t get much cheaper.

After a year, you should also check your ophthalmologist and your values as well as eye health.

And also who wears lenses should have a matching glasses. The eye needs a break from the lenses to stay healthy. And it can always happen that you get an eye inflammation. Then you don’t have to wear lenses and still have to see something.

And also lenses have to be adapted. Your eye must be measured. It’s not just going to Dioptrien

Contact lenses must always be adapted by the optician so that the optimal fit for you and you must learn the correct handling of contact lenses.

In the case of non-fitting contact lenses, an oxygen subsupply can occur in the worst case and, in the case of incorrect handling and care, injuries to the cornea and inflammation.

Contact lenses are not cheaper than glasses, on the contrary

You also need glasses for contact lenses, the eyes need a break.
