Can you start your own business without a tax number?

Is this possible?

My self-employment starts on September 1st, or tomorrow on paper. Unfortunately, I won't receive the questionnaire from the tax office until the beginning of the week, which I then have to send back, and then my tax number in 2-3 weeks.

Would I be allowed to start without this tax number, and if so, how does it work?

Can I simply process clients starting tomorrow and get paid? Do I have to submit everything I've done once the number is available?

Or does it only work once the tax number is there?

Yeah, you can. You’d just have to. Invoices that you will issue without a tax number later with the tax number and issue it again.

That’s not true. For a few years you have to fill out the questionnaire about ELSTER online
