Then you should have an idea of what you can live on, right?

If that doesn’t matter (because you get a pension, for example), I would recommend an area outside the tourist areas. There it is at least as beautiful, but not overrun and the rents are cheaper. Which is not necessarily “cheap”.

Proposal: Upper Austria or Lower Austria

You don’t even need a passport. the German identity card is sufficient.

The rents are on average cheaper in Austria than in Germany, but you will find a little under 500 a month.

With happiness and personal relations possibly in a more remote rural community in an cultivation.
