Can you degrease a painted wooden board?

I'd like to cover a beer pong table with empty snuff cans and epoxy resin. I would coat the wooden top with black varnish and degrease it afterward.

Are there any usable remedies, or will this remove the paint?

Greetings, Fabi

Degreasing should only be done before the first position you are wearing. After that, you continue to work as far as possible if the previous situation allows. A freshly applied paint layer is fat-free. You don’t need to clean up.

Practice the work with the resin to get its final surface completely polymerized. This is more my concern than the surface of a fresh lacquer layer. Adhes these lids firmly on the substrate that they do not float in the resin and provide with small holes for the air to escape before there could be bubbles.

Hmm difficult. you should roll the wood panel or grind the paint slightly. As a result, the upper lacquer layer is slightly roughened, which can improve the adhesion of the epoxy resin.

If you still want to use a degreasing agent, choose a mild solvent such as isopropyl alcohol (at least 90% purity), which generally attacks the lacquer less than stronger solvents.

I think something like Pril should go, so I do it with parts I can’t touch.

Otherwise, the black lacquer would become black again even after grinding when you pour the epoxy on it
