If you are German I know that this works. However, the number is only by “Kreditkarte” possible. But you can Gift voucher redeem, but (in your case) directly from Italy must come.

Keep in mind that shipping costs that are sometimes higher than within Germany can be incurred. Concerns should also be the aspect of how it behaves – in terms of costs – should the goods be charged.

have tried this now, and no voucher was needed, will be debited directly from my account.

That’s cool. Maybe Amazon has changed it by now.
I wanted to order something directly from Amazon.fr. Unfortunately, this did not go, but only in the form I wrote above.
