Imagine you’re the hamster. You’re sitting in your cage, you’re crumbling degrees on some hay and looking at the world outside your bars. Suddenly, a giant appears in your field of view, which also approaches you. Then he stands right in front of you and a huge something descends on you and grabs you. You don’t know what happens, you don’t know that at all. In front of your inner eye, your whole short life moves past you. You think the giant wants to eat you!

This will be quite the perspective of any hamster that has not been used to people.

If you have a new hamster, you should give him some days to get used to his new home. To the cage, all the smells and sounds around him. He needs a place like a small hut or cave in which he can move back at “Gefahr”. A place where he feels safe. There you should never try to take him out if possible so that he really feels safe.

When he got used to all this, you can start to sit next to his cage and maybe just put your hand in the cage, with some food nearby and on it. You might even know what the little one likes.

So he can get used to your present. Gradually you can move your fingers a little. Maybe gently caress him with a finger when he cracks a little near him. Most animals like pettings and when he first noticed that you don’t want to eat it, he might even start climbing your hand from his own. But this whole process can take several weeks.

Hamsters are observation animals that should not be taken up.

You need 1qm continuous floor area in a mesh and plastic-free enclosure (Terrarium/ Aquarium) with at least 25-30cm floor level.
These include art-friendly hideaways (ceramic, clay, light wood, hay), a multi-chamber house and a sand bath with good chinchilla sand.
A large impeller (from 28cm inner diameter) is just as mandatory as permanent access to fresh water.
All furnishings belong on stilts or on planes so that they cannot sink in the litter.

You have to try. But keep your open palm to him so that he can first explore it before you test it to lift it and don’t grab it after him

In the beginning, he sees human beings as predators. You have to change that. Hand in the cage and hamster ignore……. With feed in the hand it works even better. And don’t move the hand. LG hope I could help

Try out. Then you know if he agrees. We can’t tell you this.

It’s not a mess. You can also bite.
