Can I open this external hard drive and then use it internally in my PC?

The Seagates go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKLfJh2Dwt0

For WD Elements and WD Password, the USB port is soldered to the board. Seagate has an intermediate board like Toshiba and many others.

Buying a USB HDD to then use internally but nonsense. You can buy a SATA HDD without a case. If you have the HDD at home, you can do it.

With the WD Elements you could convert the HDD to SATA with a compatible PCB. Here would be a list of compatible PCBs if someone interested: Other

The WD Passport is encrypted and so it is not easy to read the data afterwards. If you don’t care, you can rebuild the PCB and format the HDD.

In any case, the ROM chip must be transferred from the original circuit board to the new one, because otherwise the HDD cannot start with high probability.

Sure you can, but then you have no guarantee/guarantee more

especially ads is unnecessarily thrown money out of the window as there is the HDD without housing for 30€

How do we know?

You have not written anywhere

Theoretically there is a classic 2.5″ SATA HDD in it, so it would be compatible with nem PC.

However, as has already been written here, it can also be that a special HDD is inserted, which only works with the controller in the housing.

It’s on the hard drive. Unfortunately, you will not see this until you open the case.

Either there’s a normal hard drive in there and you can use it quite normal in your PC.

Or there are also disks (2,5 ́ ́) to which the controller was directly attached for the external USB port. Then you can only connect it via USB. The SATA connection is then missing.

I wouldn’t be. Years ago, external panels were turned into an external panel only by an adapter SATA/IDE to USB. They could be expanded and then connected internally as a SATA or IDE plate.

It is conceivable, however, that the electronics of an external panel have only one USB interface without the detour via SATA.

The case suggests that.

Yeah, you can.

Are you sure there is enough space inside for a SATA bay?
