Regarding self-publishing:
Here you can take all threads into your hands and have to worry about layout, text design and correction as well as price calculation and distribution. It is important for you to know that further marketing of the same work via an audience publisher is hardly possible. This way would be locked up in most cases.
But it would be a real entry for the first work. If this sells, it would be a good reference for an audience publisher if you want to publish your second book. The disadvantage is that an overwhelming amount of sound and crap is now happening at the now almost unmistakable market of the self-publishers, so that even a really good book on this way quickly goes down, is not considered and can disappear in the sinking.
As a beginner, you only have a small chance to find a publisher, so start with selfpublishing.
If you’re good and find buyers, someone’s gonna be aware of you. Nowadays everyone who knows alphabet can write books. Even AI gets that.
I publish at bod.de and sell per year and book maybe 20 copies, so far away from bestseller rates. If you have to live, writer is a hard job. As a hobby it is fun and model railway construction is surely more expensive.
One more thing: are you Swiss? The “ss” hurts when you want to sell books outside Switzerland, you have to get used to the “right”.
