Are these dogs easy to care?

Depends on what you understand under care. These dogs have a very short coat, which is why you don’t have any wool that you have to comb, but it should still be brushed to get sand etc. out of the coat. The optical care expenditure (Fell, etc.) is considered to be rather small.

What do you have to pay attention to?

First of all, consider that there are diarrhoes, their expiration needs are very high and in the past they have often been used for hare hunting, so have a corresponding hunting drive, here is the retrieval of the A and O, this must sit (the retrieval is a pretty challenge with this race and is not sitting at any one 1A) and they must have a lot of movement, as they are still active today as wind and hunting dogs. But these dogs are nothing for mare stools, with 3x 30 minutes -1h giving themselves not satisfied, which need sports. Nevertheless, it is comparatively “more fragile” dogs and one has to learn to have a certain gentleness, but it does not mean to pack them in cotton, that is of course not appropriate, moreover, it is more difficult to train with this breed alone, some legends even it is not possible at all, but that is not quite true, and of course there are cases there are not. But there is a lot of patience here and you have to expect it to take a very long time and you have to expect destructive Mobeliar at the beginning. Depending on the individual feasible, but no guarantee. They are very human-related and are considered to be kind and are considered quite narrow, but if the hunting drive starts e.g. hare in the field, there is pepper in the butt. In addition, there are very smart dogs that also need to be promoted mentally. In addition, small children and wind games are a difficult combination, as this race tends to twist quickly, partially crack, scratch or kneel, and the spontaneous reaction of a child can also go back for both parties.

How expensive are these in a serious breeder?

This is something about it, here it is important that you have a VDH/FCI-recognized breeder, in the average the price for a recognised breeder is about EUR 1,500 – 2,500, here you have to consider the breed dogs and you have to wait for a puppy sometimes for a few years, because you can be placed on a waiting list.

Are these dogs suitable for beginners?

For the athletic and anticipated dog starter, the attitude could be quite feasible, but here it is important to note whether one can really meet the needs of the breed, as there are no typical accompanying dogs that run alongside one, even if they are kept as accompanying dogs, there are not pure accompanying dogs but also hunting dogs.

How much movement is realistic for this?

This is a single individual Dependent, here dog sports such as Agility or diarrhoea races offer themselves as an alternative, which they actually need because they really need a lot to run out. Here are of course min. 2h per day + that they need race-typical movement, so they have to run, for that they were bred. Here is the problem that you need a lot of space and, depending on the federal state, there is a linen obligation, so windhound race or a coursing grounds for sports activity really offer. Because in the city it is very hard to keep these dogs race right if you cannot get their urge to move. Please do not allow to run on an x of any meadow, because, for example, mouse holes can pose serious dangers at the pace, leg breaks are unfortunately no rarity, so correct dog stretches are almost already necessary.

These are the rough indications, but here it is important to note that everything has been very brief and, above all, very generally combined. A recognized breeder can give you a lot of information about these dogs, that is also really recommended.

They are certainly relatively easy to care from skin care. But I assume that for the winter you must definitely equip them with a coat.

For a puppy from the breeder, you have to plan a four-digit amount. It may not be the first question to be asked to the breeder. Veterinary costs are not to be underestimated by any breed, an insurance would possibly be helpful.

I think it’s very important to you when I first asked you. In principle, I believe that as an ambitious beginner you can also meet such a dog. You can’t underestimate the chase, they’re sight hunters and they’re gone right away when they see what. And then at long distances. You should find out in advance that it might only go out with a tow line.

The dogs usually bind strongly to the humans and are generally pleasant dogs. Most hunting dogs can hardly be noticed in the house. They’ll turn outside. It is certainly not a breed that is rich in small walks.

It is often helpful to get in touch with special forums. I’m sure there’s something for a dog. They can then also recommend breeders or maybe even sports clubs where you can pay off the dogs.

Wish you success

The Italian wind game is easy to care due to its short coat, but the dogs freeze easily because diarrhoes should be slim and do not have much body fat.

Make sure a breeder breeds dogs that are at the upper weight limit.

With a breeder you pay between € 1 and 2,000.

It depends on what you expect from your dog. You have to like the dog character. In the house are diarrhoes inconspicuous, prefer elevated berths, outside they can quickly reach a high pace. The Italian wind game is sensitive.

One of my dogs is (probably due to its body construction) a diarrhoeal. And he behaves like that: In the house he spends a lot of time under the bedcloth, in the dog caves and if he lived here without the other dogs, there would be much less beards when visiting or the mail is delivered.

He hates cold, snow and rain but it must not be too warm. It is sensitive and has moderate hunting in sight. His sensitivity makes him easy to educate.

I feel it easier to work on the hunting of a hunter than on the hunting of a track hunter because you have the chance to see wild in front of your dog.

Windhounds are not long-distance runners. You need to be able to give the right gas, but do not necessarily have to walk three hours at a leisurely pace. My dog looks like that. 😉

They’re pretty expensive. Seriously bred up to 2,000 euros. They are very light, but should not tremble permanently. They have a strong hunting drive (sight hunter) and also a high running urge. A membership of the association makes sense so that it can run on the train at least twice a week. They want to be with their people and not stay alone.
