It is said that aquarium keeping has saved endangered species. Can anyone provide me with sources to refute this with regard to saltwater?

Freshwater aquariums have more advantages than disadvantages in terms of biodiversity, but certainly not in saltwater, right?

Have any of fish or any marine life ever been saved from extinction by marine or saltwater aquariums?

No, not anymore.

And yes, I'm sure the one or the other way was saved. About 30,000 Freshwater fish species are only traded and bred around 100 species. The figures for seawater aquariums are not known to me.
