No, thanks to the many municipal buildings in Vienna (in which a very large part of the population lives), the pressure on the market is taken out a bit and the prices are definitely even more affordable in general. So that Vienna is the most liveable city in the world, it is definitely very cheap.

However, as some others have mentioned here, rental prices have also attracted in Vienna in recent years.

No, the rental prices in Vienna are significantly lower. In recent years prices have risen sharply but are still significantly lower than in German metropolises.

Depends on how and where you want to live:

In the inner districts and extremely popular locations it is really unpaid. Before everyone, if there must be an apartment:

  • So about 550€ cold rental at least, therefore total rental 580-600€

But if you live in the outer districts, it is accessible. If, however, you should also have your own vehicle.

  • Because pedestrian infrastructure is a cost factor.
  • You will also have to manage without lift:
  • 3., 4th or 5th floor without lift are standard at half-way cheap apartments.
  • Circa: 400-450€ Total rental

If you have little things and like to share bathroom and toilet, you should look for a WG room: These are sometimes very favorable, even depending on the situation and circumstances: because the bathroom and toilet are not used uninterruptedly, so parts would be useful to further reduce rental costs:

  • Approximately: 300-350€ Total rental

Yes, Germany also has what I “temporary social housing“: For example, after 2 years, there are no social housing, because they can be rented as expensive as the publicly accessible ones.

In Austria, this would be like selling the community apartments to real estate sharks after 2 years.

What’s going on in Germany? Why are they doing so capitalistic? Are they crazy about money? Social housing must not become more expensive!

Germany-Lite

What do you mean?

Why?

Because Vienna is not in Germany. This means that for a high rent you have to accept that you do not live in Germany. The reference was 3 German cities.

Would rather say in a premium version of Germany. Austria is like a Rolex to a Casio to Germany.

I didn’t give the reference, the threader was that. I only recognize two countries in the question.

This means that for a high rent you have to accept that you do not live in Germany.

In this case also Switzerland-lite because you do not live in Switzerland?

The reference was 3 German cities.

Very little.
