Is it bad for your eyes not to wear your prescription glasses?

Hi,

I don't wear my contact lenses all the time (sometimes glasses).

(I am slightly farsighted in my left eye and moderately nearsighted in my right eye)

I've already asked an ophthalmologist's receptionist and an optician whether it would be a problem if I didn't wear my glasses all the time. They said it wouldn't be a problem if I didn't wear them. It wouldn't worsen my vision, but it wouldn't improve it either. However, depending on your vision, you might get headaches, watery eyes, and other symptoms, for example, when you try to see far away if you're nearsighted.

The optician even suggested that it would be better not to wear them all the time to reduce the strain on the eyes.

However, a friend (an optician trainee) thinks it's a bad idea. At her work, the staff also say that you should wear your glasses as often as possible.

There are also different opinions on the Internet…

What do you think?

Hello DummAberClever,

it is ok glasses or contact lenses not to wear all the time. The vision does not deteriorate. You then only have to accept the limited vision and, if necessary, the associated “side effects” (as mentioned in your question). However, the eyes are not relieved without contact lenses/glasses. And clear: in situations where vision deficits can become an accidental causer (road traffic, cycling, sawing or the like) glasses or contact lenses should already be worn for their own safety.
