Is it realistic to spend half of your training salary on rent?

Hello,

I want to move in with my partner soon, and we're currently looking for an apartment. We're both still in training—he's in his second year, and I'm in my first. I currently earn a little over €1,000 and will also receive child benefit if I move out. My partner would earn around €1,200. However, the apartment we're currently considering is 15 km from my work, which means I'd have to drive or take the train. We'd also split the car costs. The apartment would cost €1,000 including heating.
Now my question: Could this work? Sure, there's no saving money, but would it actually be feasible? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

You have to save households but if you like the apartment well I wouldn’t wait for something better. Teurer’s gonna be fine.

So you would have available around €2400. It should work if your parents support you if it should be stuck.

But: How many have been drawn together at a very young age and then after a short time have found that it does not work together in an apartment. If this happens to you, you have a problem.

Honestly, as a landlord, I wouldn’t rent the apartment for this reason. After all, I don’t want to have to look for new tenants for a short time.

No one knows what else you have.

If everyone subscribes to the German ticket and thus your mobility requests are fulfilled, or you need a car, which at least 200 € monthly plus. How much?

Do you have the simplest internet connection in the apartment and on the respective phone, or do you need the very best internet line, two mobile phone contracts with open flat rate and above Netflix, Prime, Sky and Disney+ in full equipment?

Is it enough if everyone has 30 € per month for shoes and clothes, or does it have to be planned ten times?

Do you have hobbies that eat significant amounts of money or are you okay if there is no money available for hobbies for half a year?

You only know the answers yourself. Sit down and write down what you need monthly – and what remains for rent.

If you otherwise live sparingly, that’s likely to happen.

You just have to remember that rent is not the only fixed cost point. Meaning you might be at 3/4 for all fixed costs. Whether this is still possible for you, with only a quarter of the total money, your food, repairs, new purchases, if really something is broken, and the same ones, you have to consider and, if necessary, calculate.

I’ll take a maximum of one third of his monthly income from my tenant.

In Munich you would have got a 35 sqm apartment to 700 Euro – but cold…
