Sure. Everyone has another idea of sharp. I am friends with a Thai who says what you get here in the Thai or Chinese restaurant is already adapted to the European palate.

Some people get better with sharpness than others – and it always depends on what causes the sharpness.

Both paprika and chilis contain capsaicin, the “sharp fabric” – in the chili is just a lot more in it.
But also other substances such as e.g. Piperine in pepper provide a certain sharpness.

In contrast to the tastes, however, sharpness is also not recorded or noted by the taste receptors but by the pain receptors. And even in pain, everyone has such preferences.

It’s a little like when you get excited and get out of your forehead with your hand. For one, that’s the right thing, and one wonders if they’re breaking up, the next one likes a slow facepalm;)
