Isn't an inspection totally overpriced?

would you say you can do without it

I mean, you spend several hundred euros on it, and isn't that unnecessary? I mean, as long as the car runs?

And you could only do it when something happens, for example? And otherwise nothing will happen… and if it does, you'll somehow notice beforehand. So you can approach it according to the motto "no risk, no fun," and you only live once anyway. So why waste money? Maybe it would be better to just drive. If you get caught and die, it would be incredibly unlucky. But everyone dies, so to speak.

and you could only do it when something is

Well, it’s more like something is, because you have not taken care of maintenance. And then it becomes even more expensive, so you don’t save, but you risk considerable extra costs compared to regular inspection.

It’s a car. A 15-year-old golf, of course, is not available at VW. In this way, most people actually do this and are limited to the least.

The best way is to make it easy for a fraction of the costs, which is especially good for older cars. A workshop manual does not cost 20 €. And an oil-air filter or spark plug change can teach each schoolgirl.

I have two Toyotas.

An avensis that is now 15 years old and still goes to my Toyotawerkstatt at the latest after 2 years or 15,000 km. Cost point 200-300€, I deliver oil myself. The car is still very good at 190,000 km.

On my 22-year-old Yaris, I do everything myself. Oil change with filter costs me about 25€ and 20 min work, everything else is done if needed. It is also very good at over 20,000 km.

However, in both cars I open the engine hoods every 4-6 weeks and look at everything coarsely, check the liquids and go around briefly. The 10 min you should invest in old cars or have someone at hand who looks when you can’t. The car thanks you.

If you don’t have two left hands and know exactly what to do, you can also make an oil change yourself. If you don’t have a normal oil filter, you need special tools.

The same applies to the change of spark plugs

You can do it. Three or four times the oil change saved, then you can buy a new engine that is significantly more expensive than the saved oil.

The defective shimmer ring from the gear, which one would have found during the inspection and replaced for a fuffi, ensures that at some point all the oil is out of the gear and the same goes down.

The worn brake pad only ruins the actually good brake disc until the lining straps fall out of the saddle and block the wheel on full travel.

Sure, you can do. But gives good reasons why cars with such a maintenance store are no longer worth it.

If your car is scrap, you might make an accident, which will hurt other people or die. It doesn’t matter.

The inspection itself costs money, of course. And if warranty is on the vehicle, you should also keep the intervals.

But if you get out of the warranty, you can make it at your own discretion.

If the manufacturer prescribes annual oil change, but you only drive 5,000km a year, then that would be superfluous and ejected money. But if you drive 30,000 a year, it would be good to exchange regularly.

It’s a big deal. But with a bit of healthy common sense and a bit of a clue, you can manage that well, that you don’t pull the money out of your pocket.

You should be in general. As I said, the most important is a regular oil change. Because that’s really going on the engine.

Candles, air filters, gear oil, innate filter is nix what you need to do every year. Unless you really think a lot…
