Is a 2.5" server HDD with 10,000 rpm too overdressed as a REC drive for a satellite receiver?

Hello.

The Seagate Exos series is the only one with CMR technology. CMR vs. SMR has already been discussed to no end, and I would buy a SATA SMR from Toshiba or Seagate, but that's not the case. But I still wanted to ask. I don't want the receiver to pick up and/or make annoying operating noises.

In my opinion, “Yes!” To record video data streams of a sat receiver, no one needs a 10,000 rpm record. I wouldn’t even buy a 7,200 rpm record.

Could be problematic from cooling.

How big are they?

Up to 2TB, a SATA SSD in the 2.5″ housing is a good and especially quiet alternative.

To get the 100,-€ I still find acceptable, especially since the hard drives are not so much cheaper:

At 20,-€ price difference I wouldn’t take HDD anymore.
