Is this branch suitable for a rat cage?

Hello,

I've read and seen that many people put branches in their rat cages to provide climbing opportunities. Now I've found this branch at home and am wondering if the small twigs might be too sharp and injure my rats.

Hello 🙋

Do you know the wood? I can’t identify wood and if it doesn’t come from an animal, it can also be a poisonous species.

Otherwise, the branch would fit.

If he comes from outside, I’d bake him out to avoid mites.

Looks like a aquarium root.

Depending on where it comes from, it can have toxic impurities in its fibers.

So if the rat’s cracking it, it wouldn’t be healthy.

Local woods such as hazel, apple tree, cherry tree etc- are more suitable for nailing.

If you’re minding that they don’t have a mold, yeah.

Soak with boiling water.
