Is the artificiality of K-Pop groups a reason for their success?

I always thought boy bands of the 90s were the pinnacle of marketing, a pure product of commerce. BUT! Some of their hits were well composed and produced. And the a cappella singing wasn't bad at all.

K-pop, however, is so artificial and melodically simple, it's quite remarkable. Added to that are these anime-like characters and robot dance steps that seem rehearsed to excess. Yes, it's really like watching a tribute dance group based on anime characters. Although that doesn't seem to be the case. Added to that is the enormous (apparent) lack of character of the band members. There's the one with colorful hair, then the obligatory dyed blonde, then the funny clown, the shy pretty boy. And in female groups, the members hardly differ except in hair color. If they were a sweet, they would be those brightly colored Trolli fruit gums that make you feel full after just five because they taste so artificial.

Is that the secret recipe for these bands' success? Completely fictional human anime characters, lacking in depth and cast purely based on appearance. It's bound to appeal to people who don't care about even the slightest bit of authenticity when listening.

I think the real why these are so successful is similar to the groups before, the training after motown style and the fan binding as the boybands of the 90s.

Of course, there is also stategie as the member selected from the Lables, from the nationality to which languages they speak to pick up as many as possible. Especially today with social media and influencers, it is just logical that this is used, would be almost stupid if not.

However, I have to talk to you about some things, the labels have a lot of influence on what the music, the image and the concept is, which have invested a lot of money in the years of training, from lessons to the living room, but if you look at the most successful you can see inter-diverse strategies and success stories.

When you look at some groups, the fact that they write and produce the music themselves is super important and a feature that makes them look like Bts and straykids, Gidle. Some now have as a feature that they have the main feature on performance and intense choreo, for example Ateez and itzy. At SM you always say you notice the voices of the members and how long it was worked to reach this level in the vocal heavy song.

Honestly, it makes sense that if you use such a training and the media, and we do not know it in this context. Just as an example of our own No Angels here in Germany, casted, the members selected that are different and appeal to different tastes, get some training, accustomed together and tries to grow together before the first music comes out. Uand then filmed all this, cut together and published as a series of popsatrs. Is nix different than a successor of the Mo Town system from America and a predecessor of the kpop training system.

K-Pop, however, is really so artificial and melodic unique or simple that is already remarkable.

I honestly see no differences. It’s just a different direction of music.

Then there is one with colorful hair, then the obligatory blond colored, then the funny clown, the shy Schönling.

It wasn’t different with other boybands.

Is that the secret recipe for the success of these bands? Completely fictitious human anime characters cast together without a low and pure according to appearance. People who aren’t about a minimum of authenticity have to like hearing.

No, it’s just another target group you obviously don’t belong to. Each metal band looks the same, almost every rapper looks the same and almost every K-Pop group.

And this comment by the way of someone who finds K-Pop disgusting 😀

Of course, I’m trying to make it easier. It is also appropriate.

Almost every genre or subgenre has a quite similar appearance.

Like K-Pop.

I always thought boy bands of the 90s were the zenith of marketing, a pure product of commerce.

Why would they have been the zenith? The capitalist economic order and the music industry have not survived. If you want to live with your music, commercialization is a necessary step.

K-Pop, however, is really so artificial and melodic unique or simple that is already remarkable.

No, it’s not. Is there a lot of producers and musicians, even here in the west, who appreciate it. In addition, much more Western producers and directors work in the K-Pop industry than you think.

In addition, these animes are similar characters

It’s a cure. There was/is similar in the western music industry. The Glam rock of the late 70s lived by such strong overdrawings.

Robot dance steps that work up to Exzess.

Makes every ballet dancer or musical performer. You have to do something.

In addition, there is an enormous (apparent) characterlessness of the band members.”

You can only say if you don’t get involved with it and let others think for yourself. Is there a lot of backround material that proves the opposite.

Then there is one with colorful hair, then the obligatory blond colored, then the funny clown, the shy Schönling. And in women’s groups, the members differ almost only in the hair color.

Apart from being a little misogyn, it’s wrong. Yes, they have so-called people, so assigned roles, but the Idols also fill them with their own personality. I refer to the backround material like Making of, Behind recording, Survival and Reality shows. Although this is always a very selected picture, scandals or bad publicity can quickly mean the carding end, and yet there are quite personal insights.

Nö, the recipe for success is a mix of professional production, good marketing and parasocial relationship. This builds up a loyal fan base.

This is only half the truth. Yes, they are selected according to a concept but the performance and chemistry between the member is also important. Many Idols train together 12 hours a day for months/years. Do you think you don’t develop friendships? They often live in homes, so they are constantly together. This creates more connection than any suburbgae band can have.
