Is data recovery possible after reinstalling LINUX?

Hi everyone, I installed Linux Mint. Unfortunately (yes, a rookie mistake…), I clicked on the wrong drive and installed the system on my data drive.

Is there any way to save this data or is it over?

Thanks and greetings

Yes, it is possible in principle. The larger the plate, the greater the prospects for success.

Files on storage areas overwritten by the Linux operating system cannot be saved. But all other areas have not been empty or overwritten, but have only been marked as empty. The data were not changed there.

I can’t tell you what tool you should use. The hard drive is now formatted ext4, but the file has been filed under NTFS formatting. I don’t know if and what tools can handle it.

No, the files were overwritten. You can try, but you will fail.

The next time better pay attention to which partition you install Linux (if I do, I always note this)

No.

There may be professionals who can save “something” but it is quite unlikely

Reason: Once overwritten data areas are just “overwritten”
