Is there an HDMI to Thunderbolt 4 adapter?
Hello!
Is there an adapter that connects an HDMI port to an Apple Thunderbolt 4 port ? Thunderbolt 4 is identical in size to USB-C, but offers more power. For this reason, I'm not looking for an HDMI-to-USB-C adapter.
Best regards

Do you want to connect a display to your Mac Mini? If so, a simple USB Type-C to HDMI adapter will suffice.
USB Type-C is a connector with many possible functions. USB data, power, and a DisplayPort signal are the most common options it can offer.
Thunderbolt 3/4, or USB 4, also uses the Type-C connector and offers PCIe, faster data rates, and mandatory DisplayPort support. Thunderbolt is also backward compatible with the USB protocol. The Mac mini supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) via the Thunderbolt port.
The Mac Mini supports a DisplayPort 1.4 signal via its Thunderbolt port. This can be accessed via an adapter that doesn't necessarily use Thunderbolt. A DisplayPort signal can be easily converted to an HDMI signal.
I recently purchased this adapter for, among other things, my M1 MacBook Air. The MacBook also uses Thunderbolt / USB 4. This adapter supports HDMI 2.0 for 4K60 or 1440p144, for example. There are also cheaper adapters with HDMI 1.4 for 4K30 or 1440p60.
If you want to go the other way, capturing an HDMI signal with your Mac Mini, you'll need different hardware. You'll need a capture card that supports USB, Thunderbolt, or PCIe (over Thunderbolt).
The easiest way is with a USB capture card. If the card uses USB Type-A, you'll need a Type-C to Type-A adapter. When choosing an adapter, make sure it supports bandwidth (480 Mbps, USB 2.0, 5 Gbps, or 10 Gbps).
With a PCIe capture card, you'll also need an adapter/enclosure for PCIe accessories. Thunderbolt can transfer PCIe, but it's still a Type-C connector.
du muss schon sagen was genau du machen willst damit man dir helfen kann
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. The fact is that the display output is HDMI, and the Mac Mini offers USB-C or Thunderbolt 4 ports on the back.

The Mac mini M2 offers one HDMI output and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. Both Thunderbolt (USB-C) ports also support DisplayPort.

Since the Mac mini M2 (not Pro) only supports two monitors at once, you can connect either one monitor via HDMI and one via USB-C/DisplayPort, or two via USB-C/DisplayPort. If your monitor supports DisplayPort directly, you'll use a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter. If it only supports HDMI, you'll use a USB-C to HDMI adapter (which is technically DisplayPort to HDMI).
It remains the case that USB-C is just a connector format, not a transmission standard. And with a few exceptions (e.g., Apple's StudioDisplay, LG UltraFine 5K), almost all monitors don't support Thunderbolt. The vast majority only support HDMI and DisplayPort.
