Is there a fuse on the BUS Terminator?
Hello, I am currently retraining to become an IT specialist in system integration.
We currently have the BUS with the terminator so that the data is not mirrored back.
Now the problem with a cable break is that there is no longer a terminator at one end.
My thought and question is: isn't there some kind of fuse terminator that can kick in if a cable breaks at the end of the BUS, that simply kicks in so that everything doesn't fail?
Hope you can do something with the description 😀
There are many bus systems, not all need a final resistance.
A “automatic” termination would be conceivable, but in my knowledge there is no bus system in practice. Sometimes, they are practically built so that each device loops through the bus and can be detected if it is the last (e.g. because no plug is on the next device). But that’s a convenience, no emergency security.
The question is the meaning of an automatic termination in the event of a cable break. If the bus is separated in the middle, no normal operation is possible any longer, even if I cancel the two halves. The cable break at the free end of the bus (i.e. without cutting off devices) would be pure luck or should you ask yourself why a cable hangs around at all.
In Ethernet, the problem has been solved by replacing the former bus-like coax cabling (from which the “ether” is called) with a physically star-shaped cabling.
