The rock dove is not currently living in the wild. However, there are endangered species of dove, such as the rose-ringed dove and the fan-tailed dove. There were once only about 10 rose-ringed doves left on Mauritius. Thanks to conservation efforts, there are now about 350 in the wild. Nevertheless, the species is one of the rarest in the world.
